I was born in Lancashire and have lived in and around the Pendle area all my life. Pendle Hill is a well known landmark in this area of Lancashire and its chief claim to fame is being associated with the Lancashire witches; a small group of mainly very poor local folk who became victims of "witch hunts" at the beginning of the 17 Century. Though the short lived incidents in which they were involved are now almost four hundred years old, the stories and legends live on and Pendle Hill is a constant reminder of their presence in this area. Pendle Hill and its surrounding area has been painted countless times and as a "local" artist I too have contributed my share of paintings. Because I have lived and worked in Lancashire all my life, a feeling for the landscape of the area has become second nature to me and with such a close geographical relationship with the subject and a love of the district I feel it subconsciously seeps through, showing in the colour and atmosphere of the paintings. The landscapes shown on this site are mostly of “real views” though the occasional tree may have been borrowed from some other part of a Pendleside location and Pendle itself may have been nudged to the left or right a little to balance a composition.
